This is book is a must read for all those who are seeking the Divine. This is a beautiful rendering from the original book, updated for translation, but not altered. Shirdi Sai Baba’s stories based on his life as an amazing Divine soul and how through these stories he has touched and continues to awaken and heal the openhearted seekers and the curious seekers of God. I truly experienced the blessings of Baba on completion of this book. The book has beautiful illustrations of original art work by Baba devotees along with original photos of Baba. I have read this through several times and now it is inspiring to just randomly open a page and read one of the stories to propel you into a day with gratitude and love!

"Shirdi Baba is the avatar for this yuga. He is the number one perfect incarnation of Dattatreya. Baba always said Allah Maalik Ek--God is one. The inner meaning of this was all the three (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) were in him, Dattatreya. No doubt, he was a purely Shiva character. A Shiva Datta character means Shiva with a begging bowl living a very simple life. He had amazing abilities, but rarely showed them. He meditated for fifty years, non-stop. Non-stop means he only took off one to two hours each day to go into the village and ask for food. Then again he sat in his Dwarkamai, meditating and doing his spiritual process. After some years, he took his meditation energy and made four flames in a room underground. Then he sealed that room to keep those lights burning to store his meditation power, all his energy, for millions of people to be able to receive that energy in the future. Whatever top miracles any saint did on this planet, Baba did ten times more powerfully. It was proved in that village by thousands of stories. He passed October 15, 1918, but still his soul exists. Not sure what to think

Reading this I wasn't sure if this was meant to be a love story or a tale about one person's homophobia, as it seemed more a story discouraging same sex relationships rather than one of acceptance. I don't recommend it.

Not really what I expected

This wasn't a bad manga, but the truth is I'm used to reading yaoi as oppose to BL, which this clearly was. If you're a fan of the genre itself, you already know the difference (yaoi is a bit more edgy and hardcore; BL is more romance centered and less vulgar) and if you prefer something a bit tamer, I suppose you'll be satisfied with this story. But, honestly, there really wasn't much in the way of romance in this either.

The uke (submissive) in this story clearly wanted nothing to do with the one pursuing him. Even when he finally acknowledged feeling "something" for him, he still couldn't come to grips with it and there really didn't seem to be a happy ending for this one. I mean, he came out in his own way, but he was clearly ashamed of it.

Plot wise, the story was pretty linear. It tells you right on the book cover what its about - a boy runs into an attractive photographer and makes a bet that he doesn't win and now has to let the photographer photograph him, inadvertently sparking an interest in both the photographer and in photography itself.

Really, that's it. You do learn where his fear of homosexuality comes from, but it really doesn't add anything to the original content of the story. Either way, I think my lackluster interest isn't so much because of the credibility of the author, but just because I picked up something I thought would be a little more racier and it wasn't.

I'm sort of out growing my addiction to yaoi in general, but Yamila Abraham is the absolute best. As long as she continues to put stuff out, I will always read it.

Slowly (very) he is confronts his homophobia as his basically good nature asks why he acts that way.

Over the years I have kept a copy of the Essays by my favorite reading chair to be enjoyed at random, particularly in the middle of the night when Entropy seems to hold the upper hand. They exercise a remarkable calming effect.

Seduced by the idea of having a complete set of all the Essays, I initially opted for the complete Screech translation, but found it wooden and pedantic. I moved to the Cohen translation, which does not include all of the Essays, but has all of the major ones and is far more enjoyable.

What a wonderful book to have on the bookshelf. It took me about a year and half to read it, as I would leisurely consume an essay or two while between books, or if I was just looking for a pleasant respite from my other reading. Montaigne is every bit as readable, fascinating and wise as the judgment of history has deemed him.

I enjoyed this book and I think it is mostly still true

I had to go back and look at the copyright date because this could be America 2016. I assume the negative reviews are from people who don't like the way their town was portrayed. I don't think the author's judgement is harsh. It is accurate: America isn't perfect. This book portrays it, good and bad. And very funny in parts. The only shock is how prices have changed - and Bill thought prices were bad at the time! Five stars, yes.
